Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Fireworks are going off all around here and probably will continue all night long...

But since our sunset comes before your sunrise, you still have time to celebrate Chinese New Year's Eve all day.

Make some potstickers, bake some almond cookies. light off some fireworks (OK maybe not). If you are still looking for other ideas for a Chinese New Year Celebration, check out my free Chinese New Year Activity Book.

And we hope you all have a wonderful New Year!

  1. Thanks for the free ebook! I tried to make the almond cookies for a Chinese friend of mine but I had no luck! I tried them without eggs so I added extra oil but it seemed to not be enough for the dough to stick together. It was really crumbly and when I rolled them into balls they didn't flatten out while cooking. Should I have added more oil? It just seemed to be getting to be a lot of oil.

  2. Sorry, you are having trouble. Chinese cookies are generally oily and crumbly.

Perhaps they needed still more oil, or you could try a little milk or water, or just go with adding the eggs in from the beginning.

Perhaps the cookies also need to be flattened slightly before baking at a "normal" altitude. I live at high altitude so everything flattens, and haven't tried the recipe yet at a lower altitude.

Hope that helps and again sorry about the trouble.

    Happy New Year!
